The group of Prof. Stefan Knapp at theInstitut für Pharmazeutische Chemie, Fachbereich Biochemie, Chemie und Pharmazie at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main offers a Research Assistant Position (‘kleine’E9*TV-G-U).  The position is available available immediately to work at the SGC based at the University of Frankfurt and the appointment is funded until 30.06.2020.

They offer an exciting position embedded in an interdisciplinary research environment.  They are looking for people that are highly qualified and motivated to join our international team.

You will assist the research group, independently plan and evaluate experiments, in particular in the area of high-throughput cloning, rotein purification and biochemical assays, as well as perform administrative lab management tasks.

You will have an education as BTA, MTA or comparable education as technical assistant and have already practical lab experience. You are highly motivated, knowledgeable and experienced in a variety of molecular biology techniques including cloning, protein expression using different expression systems, and protein purification techniques. You have practical experience in high-throughput techniques and liquid handling. You are familiar with lab management and are capable to execute bench level experiments with the expectation that you will in time be able to write protocols and contribute to the design of experimental plans. You are expected to analyze data, record and report the results, discussion and conclusions and suggest a plan moving forward.  You are passionate about your work and have a proactive attitude.  You are comfortable to work with different personalities and cultures in an international team. Fluency in English is a prerequisite.

The position is embedded in the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), a not-for-profit, public, private partnership encompassing 8 pharmaceutical companies that conducts pre-competitive research to facilitate the discovery of new medicines. Based at several additional international universities (Oxford, Toronto, Chapel Hill, Campinas) the SGC's work contributes to new hypotheses in understanding and treating human disease, and the subsequent identification of new targets for drug discovery.The SGC’s primary objectives are to produce and characterise the 3-dimensional structures of soluble proteins and of integral membrane proteins, to generate selective chemical probes for epigenetic proteins, kinases

and other proteins, and to release these into the public domain. As part of its mission the SGC generates medically relevant reagents and knowledge related to human proteins and proteins from human parasites, which it shares through over 250 collaborations with researchers worldwide.
