PostDoc in structure biology of ion channels
Project description The project focuses on the purification and characterization of a ligand-gated ion channel. The candidate will characterize the appropriate expression system and establish the purification of the protein. Subsequently, the protein will be characterized with novel labeling agents and visualized by electron microscopy. Our local EM facility is equipped with a JEOL 2100f and a DE20 direct electron detector. Our group has access to the National CryoEM Facility, with a Krios (K2) and a Talos Arctica (FalconIII). The goal of the project is the identification of the binding sites through labeling agents. Further we are interested to image different states of the protein along the activation cycle.
Qualifications PhD in the field of Biochemistry or Structural Biology (or related disciplines). Experience in cell culture and protein expression systems, as well as familiarity with protein expression. Previous experience in structural biology is of advantage. The candidate should be highly motivated and able to work independently. Good communication skills are required, because the project is part of a larger collaborative effort between labs in different countries.
