The research issue for the post-doc will involve structural characterizations of RNA and RNA-protein complexes based on X-ray crystallographic methods. Flaviviruses, such as Dengue virus, West Nile virus,yellow fever virus and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus. are among the medically most important emerging viruses known to man. Flaviviruses are RNA viruses with a single-stranded (+) sense RNA genome. In the current project the post-doc should investigate the structure and function of flaviviral RNA domains and their RNA-protein complexes. The aim is to gain important insights into the virus life cycle and a better understanding of virus-host cell interactions.
Successful candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent). The candidates must have in-depth knowledge of macromolecular X-ray crystallography methods and protein biochemistry. He/She must be able to carry out independent scientific research work and be able to write scientific reports and publications. Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
