WELLCOME TRUST FUNDED RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION

University of Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 29 Nov 2020

The Bose Lab are seeking a Research Associate for a Wellcome Trust funded position to study the structural roles and mechanisms of non-coding enhancer RNAs (eRNAs) in chromatin regulation. This is a multidisciplinary project combining single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) with functional biochemistry and cell biology approaches.

Enhancer RNAs are non-protein coding RNAs transcribed from gene regulatory enhancers. eRNAs are important for regulating gene expression, however the structural and molecular basis of these functions is poorly defined. You will study the molecular basis of eRNA structure and function, and their interactions with chromatin regulatory complexes using single particle cryo-EM and complementary functional assays, including cutting edge single-molecule techniques and develop training in mammalian cellular and molecular biology approaches.

The project is ideally suited for scientists looking to expand their experience of multidisciplinary science. In particular, while focused on cryo-EM, the project supports and encourages integration of structural biology and biochemistry with functional and genetic assays in mammalian systems, therefore providing a great opportunity to build expertise across disciplines. Your expertise will allow you to work independently as a cryo-EM focused scientist, applying creative and innovative approaches to tackle the research question.

The group members are fully encouraged to develop their own research ideas to enable their career progression. You will be supported to attend and present your data at national and international meetings and to participate in further training opportunities. The role involves working closely with a number of collaborators, group members and students, and therefore requires a commitment to upholding a supportive and inclusive work ethic and environment.
