Two post-doctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Alessandro Vannini, Division of Structural Biology at The Institute of Cancer Research in London. The ideal candidated will be highly motivated and creative individuals with a strong interest in structural and functional characterization of large multi-subunit complexes. Currently the group employs single particle electron microscopy analysis, as well as biochemical and biophysical analysis in vitro and molecular biology approaches in living cells, to elucidate the role of the transcription apparatus in genome function and organization. In particular, understanding at a molecular level the cross-talk between SMC complexes and transcription machineries is of particular interest. Several projects are available, for which initial EM datasets have been collected.
The Division of Structural Biology has managed facilities for protein crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (in house Glacios equipped with Falcon III and VPP, 30% direct access of Krios with K3/Falcon III and VPP located at the Francis Crick Institute) and protein production with expertise in multi-subunit expression (insect cell, yeast and bacterial expression). Additionally it will also be possible to to use, and take part in the development, of the cryo-EM facility at Human Technopole, Milan Italy, where several high-end microscopes will be delivered by the end of 2020.
Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent) in biochemistry or molecular biology with experience in cryo-EM specimen preparation and data processing. Experience in single particle electron microscopy is essential for these posts and experience in protein production in insect cells as well as a strong background in biochemistry of multi-subunit complexes involved in transcription and chromatin remodelling would be desirable.
Appointment will be on Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2021 in the first instance, with a starting salary in the range of £32,200* to £37,850 p.a. inclusive (based on previous post-doctoral experience, *£32,200 starting salary is for pre-viva candidates).
Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Dr. Alessandro Vannini (email@example.com). Please note, this address is for enquiries only and you should not send your application to this email address.
