Plex Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company which is developing novel drugs targeting protein misfolding and aggregation and flavivrus proteases, has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Scientist.
The successful candidate will be an independent contributor to drug discovery efforts by performing molecular biology, protein chemistry, compound screening, enzyme kinetics (Kcat, Km and Ki) and mechanism of action, cell-based, and ex vivo assays, as well as assisting in assay development for further characterization of compounds.
Independently will perform:
• Ligand binding and enzyme kinetic assays, reporter assays, SDS-PAGE protein electrophoresis, Western blot analysis, and ELISAs
• Use appropriate cellular models for neurodegenerative and other diseases for assaying cell death, gene expression, protein aggregation and other biomarker assays
• Develop and troubleshoot new biochemical and cell-based assays
• Identify and develop strategies to contribute to drug discovery projects and grant applications
• Support day-to-day needs of the lab and the company
Education Qualification and Experience:
• PhD biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience, or related field with 4-6 years’ experience either in an academic or industrial setup
• Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, enzyme kinetics and cell biology
• Experience in cell culture and cell-based assays. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in biochemical, cellular and ex-vivo models of protein misfolding and aggregation and anti-infective models
• Knowledge and working experience in confocal, fluorescent, and brightfield microscopy and related image analysis software
• Strong knowledge and deep understanding and knowledge of small-molecule drug discovery and development process
• Early preclinical drug development experience - In vitro ADME and Pharmacology
• Must be eager to learn and take initiative on new projects
• Knowledgeable with a broad range of laboratory equipment
• Experience in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is required
• Experience and knowledge in use of GraphPad Prism software
• Sound critical thinking capabilities, with the ability to work independently to plan experiments, interpret and analyze data
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Willingness to work in a dynamic, challenging, flexible and fast paced environment
• A self-motivated, independent worker who can identify needs and take initiative to address them
• Strong commitment to work as a team and strong interpersonal skills
