Research Assistant in Membrane Proteins

SGC, Oxford, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 23 May 2019

The Structural Genomics Consortium is seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to provide molecular biology, eukaryotic expression and protein production support for a collaborative project, the aims of which are to unlock Solute Carrier Proteins (SLCs). SLCs are integral membrane proteins which are challenging to express and purify. Therefore, we are seeking someone with creativity in devising both generic and specialised solutions for difficult proteins.

For the role of Research Assistant, you will have excellent knowledge and experience of expressing proteins in baculovirus/insect or mammalian systems, and of protein purification from large scale cultures. Additionally, you will have the ability to optimise expression conditions, troubleshoot problems and contribute to the design of experimental plans. You will liaise closely with a Postdoctoral Scientist on the project, therefore effective work planning, written and oral communication is essential.
