Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in cryo-EM to join Professor Christian Siebold’s group located in the Division of Structural Biology (STRUBI), Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics (WHG).
We currently have the opportunity to recruit a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist in cryo-EM with the expectation of tailoring specific projects to your particular interests. We are particularly interested in recruiting structural biologists with experience in single particle cryo-EM of integral membrane proteins and/or large multi-protein signalling assemblies. Research in the Siebold group is focused on the structural biology of mammalian cell surface signalling involved in embryonic development, neuronal guidance and stem cell regulation (see e.g. Byrne et al Nature 2016, Healey et al NSMB 2015, Bell et al Science 2013).
You will join a very lively and motivated international and interdisciplinary group of scientists. You will be responsible for both adapting existing and developing new scientific reports and journal articles. You will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources. You will also act as a source of information and advise other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of a research project which will include assisting junior researchers in their work.
You will have a PhD (or in exceptional cases expected to obtain soon) in the structural and functional studies of proteins and protein complexes, with research experience in single particle cryo-EM analysis (sample preparation, data collection and processing) of membrane proteins and/or multi-protein signalling complexes, as well as in the production of membrane proteins and/or protein complexes for structural studies. You will have a good publication record, with documented examples of recent work at the level of first author publication in a leading refereed journal. You will have the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project, working as part of a team and show the ability to organise and prioritise your own work with minimal supervision. Having excellent communication skills is essential.
The position is fixed-term contract until 31 July 2020 with the option of extension for another 2 years and is funded by the European Research Council.
