Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Molecular virology

University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 02 Mar 2021

University of Oxford are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral research assistant to join the laboratories of Professor Ervin Fodor at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology and Professor Jonathan Grimes at the Division of Structural Biology (STRUBI), University of Oxford. The postholder will join a dynamic and successful team of virologists, biochemists and structural biologists studying the fundamental molecular mechanisms of virus replication. The project is part of G2P-UK, a National Virology Consortium to address phenotypic consequences of SARS-CoV-2 genomic variation and will specifically focus on addressing the phenotypic consequences of variations in the replicase genes. The project builds on recent breakthroughs in our understanding of the structure and function of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus transcriptional machineries (Walker et al bioRxiv 2020; Carrique et al Nature 587:638; Fan et al Nature 573:287, 2019; Hengrung et al Nature 527:114, 2015).

The position would suit an enthusiastic and highly organised postdoctoral scientist with an interest in viral replication and possessing the ability to contribute conceptually to the overall research programme. Candidates with specific interests in the functional analysis of macromolecular complexes using biochemical and biophysical methods are particularly encouraged to apply but we would like to hear also from candidates with a strong background in virology, molecular and cell biology who have interests in virus-host interactions, effects of viral infection on the host cell and host responses to viral infection.
