Postdoctoral Associate Position at Cornell University in Methods Development for Small-Angle X-ray Scattering and X-ray Crystallography

Cornell University , United States
Application deadline: 30 Nov 2018

One or two postdoctoral positions are available in methods development for small-angle x-ray scattering and x-ray crystallography of biomolecules in the group of Prof. Robert Thorne in the Physics Department at Cornell University.  The focus of the work will be on developing and applying methods for high-throughput cryogenic temperature SAXS and for high-throughput variable temperature crystallography.  The work will involve CAD design, microfabrication, protein expression and purification, X-ray data collection (at CHESS, APS, or NSLS), laboratory-based experiments, and modeling.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biophysics, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields. Relevant areas of experience include bioSAXS data collection, analysis and modeling; X-ray crystallography and crystallographic refinement; protein expression, purification, and crystallization; laboratory apparatus design, machining, and assembly; and microfabrication.

The initial Postdoctoral Associate appointment will be for one year, with the expectation for renewal for at least one additional year.  Start dates are flexible, and can be as early as January 2019.

Application material should be submitted to ret6@cornell.edu. Complete applications will include a brief cover letter, a CV, a detailed summary of research experience and interests, and three letters of recommendation.  Recommendation letters, if not initially provided, will be requested after application screening.
