Umeå University are recruiting a PhD student to a project to study translocation of bacterial proteins, especially in Gram-negative bacteria.
The project involves research on bacterial proteins using structural biology approaches. In particular, the lab uses protein crystallography in combination with biophysical methods and cryo-electron microscopy. This project is focused on a protein machinery that is involved in transportation of proteins from the bacterial inner membrane to the outer. Further, they are interested in the assembly of bacterial surface proteins. Your tasks will include protein purification and characterisation, protein crystallisation and structure determination using X-ray crystallography. You may also be involved in data acquisition for cryo-electron tomography and single particle cryo-electron microscopy.
