Applications are invited for an IT Software Tester and Trainee Developer to join our expanding development team in the Division of Structural Biology at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics.

Within the Hub team, you will be responsible for providing hands-on user support to remote users accessing Instruct services through its web-based portal. Services are increasingly offered worldwide and you will be required to communicate professionally and efficiently with people for whom English may not be a first language. You will also be responsible for further development and support for software that facilitates Instruct activities through the ARIA platform, under tuition of the existing development team. You will be responsible for testing of all of the development work undertaken by the team as well as writing efficient unit tests to expedite code review.

You will have an honours degree or equivalent experience in computing science or related field; experience of software developing in multiple languages: specifically PHP, HTML, CSS and an understanding of unit testing frameworks and code review software. You will also have a strong desire to learn and a motivation for career development within IT; good knowledge of modern IT systems and project methodologies, practices and approaches; excellent attention to detail in the delivery, completion and recording of all work and good professional communication skills particularly dealing with users/customers.
