ERC-funded postdoctoral position for a structural biologist on designed protein origami using cryo-EM

National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, ljubljana, Slovenia
Application deadline: 31 Dec 2018

Department of synthetic biology and immunology at the National institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana, Slovenia has open position for a structural biologist to work on the design of “coiled-coil based protein origami” nanostructures, aimed to introduce advanced properties and construct molecular machines.

Research will be done within the ERC Advanced Grant project MaCChines 2018-2023 awarded to prof. Roman Jerala. We are looking for candidates with PhD in structural biology with at least some knowledge of cryoelectron microscopy. The selected candidate will work on the structural investigation and design using cryoelectron microscopy but also molecular modeling, crystallography and other physicochemical methods (SAXS, FCS, ITC, SPR…). The candidate will use the cryoelectron microscope that will be installed at the institute in 2019 and the host department will have a substantial share of the user time available.

We offer an opportunity to work on the exciting scientific challenges using advanced experimental methods with the possibility to build excellent foundations for a scientific career. Experience of candidates in cryoelectron microscopy is an advantage. Information on the host department is available at https://www.ki.si/en/odseki/d12-department-of-synthetic-biology-and-immunology/. Position is open until filled, starting late 2018 or early 2019. Please send inquiries and applications with a CV, motivation letter and two addresses of referees to roman.jerala@ki.si.
