Principal Investigator in Membrane Protein Structural and Chemical Biology

University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 07 Dec 2020

The University of Oxford are seeking an enthusiastic Principal Investigator to take over the management of an established medium-sized membrane protein research group participating in both the ReSOLUTE and EUbOpen consortia at the University of Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to join the world-leading institute in the Centre for Medicines Discovery.

As Principal Investigator, you will be responsible for the scientific programme and operational management of the research group, which includes a mix of senior scientists, technical staff and students. You will contribute to the integral membrane protein milestones and deliverables of the consortia through the development of SLC protein expression systems, structure determination by X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM and assays for small molecule binding to SLCs. You will manage the scientific, technical and personnel aspects of the Integral Membrane Protein Group, providing academic supervision for research staff and students. You will also lead a programme of research on integral membrane proteins, with a major focus on solute carriers (SLCs), ensuring that the group meets its grant deliverables for structures, assays and chemical probes. In support of this effort, you will benefit from a large portfolio of expression constructs, structural projects and assays already developed by the team.

You will hold a relevant Ph.D or D.Phil with significant post-qualification research experience. It is essential that you possess sufficient specialist knowledge of membrane protein structural and chemical biology to develop research programmes and methodologies. You will have an established (inter)national reputation and publication record and have the ability to lead and motivate a team of research staff. You will have experience managing a research budget and possess a track record of successful grant applications. You will also have excellent communication skills both oral and written.

This position is a fixed term contract until 30 April 2025 and funding is provided by Innovative Medicine Initiative.
