Instruct Scientists working on Virus structure with potential for new drug treatment

10-Feb-2014

Scientists at the Instruct Centre UK (University of Oxford and Diamond Light Source) in collaboration with an international team from Beijing, Leeds and Innsbruck published their work on a new virus inhibitor in Nature Structural and Molecular Biology. The compound could be the basis for a class of drugs to treat hand, foot and mouth disease. It may also have implications  towards treatments for other viruses including polio and the common cold. The discovery further illustrates the power of structural determination of key biological molecules in targeted drug design.
