Title:  Remote X-ray Data Collection from European Synchrotrons

When: 14-18 May 2017

Where: Weizmann Institute of Science, ISRAEL

Remote data collection is routinely possible at Diamond Light Source (DLS, Oxford) and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble) and other European synchrotrons are also planning to make this available.

At this workshop, at the Weizmann Institute of Science  the protocols for remote data collection at DLS and ESRF will be discussed, demonstrated and used. The available data processing pipelines and structure determination pipelines that are available during the remote data collection session will be explained and used. There will be excellent opportunities to interact with experts on how to optimally benefit from this advanced technology made available at DLS and ESRF to the structural biology community.

Computing facilities and expertise are also available for using the remotely collected data in subsequent structure determination and structure validation calculations.

The workshop is particularly targeted for students having projects aimed at 3D structure determination using biomacromolecular crystals, working at institutes that are a member of SESAME and/or working at institutes of Instruct-ERIC countries relatively far from European Synchrotrons, as well as for students from non-EU countries working at EU-institutes who need to apply for visa, restricting e_cient access to perform on-site data collection. Students are encouraged to sent crystals in advance, which will then be shipped to DLS or ESRF.
